Autism is a complex, severe, lifelong mental disability where those affected are challenged academically and socially, and risk becoming marginalized in society due to:
- Severe communication, learning and language difficulties
- Impaired social, occupational and life skills
- Unusual, over-active and repetitive behaviour
Many people affected by Autism are intelligent and capable of being trained within their limitations but require a learning environment particular to their needs and extreme sensitivities eg not over stimulating to their senses. All require a therapeutic setting in order to function at their best.
